I would like you to sing or read the rhyme using different emotions. For example, read it as though you are sad, happy, excited or frightened. Look out for the difference. Ask your parents if they could identify the different emotions that you are trying to evoke. If they are able to, then it is a job well done for you. We will try this out in class but I would want you to try it out at home with your parents and/or siblings first. Master the skill. It will be good for your reading
Attached is the rhyme and if you need a song to it, go the following website:
http://www.kididdles.com/lyrics/m003.html
(PS: the song sounds cheery, so may not be used for the sad or frightened emotions)
Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow
Everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went,
Everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go
It followed her to school one day
School one day, school one day
It followed her to school one day
Which was against the rules.
It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play, laugh and play,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school
And so the teacher turned it out,
Turned it out, turned it out,
And so the teacher turned it out,
But still it lingered near
And waited patiently about,
Patiently about, patiently about,
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
The eager children cry
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
Loves the lamb, you know, loves the lamb, you know
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
The teacher did reply
----THE END----
Could you think of other emotions you can evoke using the same rhyme? Try it out too!!
