- Tremors are abrupt motion of the Earth's surface. They are caused by the sudden release in rocks of strain accumulated over time as a result of plate tectonics. As two plates move past each other they can become jammed. When sufficient strain has accumulated, the rock breaks, releasing a series of seismic waves as the plates spring free. Tectonic earthquakes will occur anywhere within the earth where there is sufficient stored elastic strain energy to drive fracture propagation along a fault plane. In the case of transform or convergent type plate boundaries, which form the largest fault surfaces on earth, they will move past each other smoothly and aseismically only if there are no irregularities or asperities along the boundary that increase the frictional resistance. Most boundaries do have such asperities and this leads to a form of stick-slip behavior. Once the boundary has locked, continued relative motion between the plates leads to increasing stress and therefore, stored strain energy in the volume around the fault surface. This continues until the stress has risen sufficiently to break through the asperity, suddenly allowing sliding over the locked portion of the fault, releasing the stored energy. This energy is released as a combination of radiated elastic strain seismic waves, frictional heating of the fault surface, and cracking of the rock, thus causing an earthquake.

- Tremors do not occur in Singapore as we are not at the epicenter. When an earthquake occurs in Indonesia, we can feel a slight tremor here in Singapore, but it does not cause any destruction or loss of lives.

- The force of earthquakes (magnitude) is measured on the Richter scale, and their effect (intensity) on the Mercalli scale. The point at which an earthquake originates is the focus or hypocentre; the point on the Earth's surface directly above this is the epicenter. When tremors occur at the ocean floor, it will cause a Tsunami.Earthquakes may result in disease, lack of basic necessities, loss of life, higher insurance premiums, general property damage, road and bridge damage, and collapse of buildings or destabilization of the base of buildings which may lead to collapse in future earthquakes. Earthquakes can also lead to volcanic eruptions, which cause further damages such as substantial crop damage. Tremors also create landslides!

- what is an avalanche?
- It is ethier snow,sand,huge rocks or alot of water coming down from a tall mountain at a high speed.
- what causes it?
- Weather might be the biggest factor that can cause an avalanche. It plays a huge role in the development of snow on the ground. One must consider the weather days before the scheduled trip so as to know if it is safe to continue or not. Moreover, rapid change in weather can have bad effects on snow for snowpacks do not adapt easily to rapid changes.
- The snowpack is not what you think it may seem on the surface. It may appear as a thin cover, but if you look at the cross-section of it, you may see several layers of snow that had developed through time. Snow builds up over the season, and during winter, a thicker layer is added to the previous one. Also, bonds between layers may be strong or weak. Avalanches occur if the bond is weak. Even if you have a strong bond in the upper layers of the snowpack, an avalanche may happen if the layers beneath it are weak.

1) An earthquake is what happens when two blocks of the earth suddenly slie past one another.

Because continents are part of these plates, they also move. An earthquake occurs when the rocks break and move as a result of stresses caused by plate movements.
3) Singapore, March 6 ( Reuters)- Serveral buildings in Singapore financial district were evacuted on Tuesday after tremors from an earthquake in neighboururing Indonesia were felt in the city-state, making tall buildings sway. Singapore can also be affected by neighbouring Indonasia.

What is Drought?
What's a drought? Most of us think of it as “no rainfall", but it's not that simple. Drought is when you have less rainfall than you expected over an extended period of time, usually several months or longer. Drought is a normal part of climate, and it can occur almost anywhere on earth. For example, Arizona and Maine have very different climates, but drought occurs in both states. Drought's features and effects vary from place to place because of different geographical features and cultures, which affect how people use water.
A shortage of rainfall can result in major impacts on agriculture, city water supplies, tourism and recreation, energy (power) production, river navigation, and the environment.
If you are a farmer, drought means that you do not have enough water in the soil for crops to grow normally or for pastures to produce enough grass for livestock. For farmers who rely on irrigation to produce their crops, drought may be a shortage of water in reservoirs, streams, or groundwater, and irrigation may be restricted. If you live in a city, drought may result in a shortage of water for watering grass, trees, and other plants. Often during drought, people in cities are asked to conserve water used inside the home and outside. Has your town or city experienced drought recently and have residents been asked to conserve water?

Afterwards we, translators, will do the work for you.' It looks quite simple, but the truth is.... When Mori met Clinton, he mistakenly said 'Who r u?' (Instead of 'How r u?'.) THE RESPONSIBLE HOUSE
One humid afternoon, Mr Peh was busy cleaning the tables. While he was cleaning the tables, he saw a young man spewing vulgarities and smoking at a non-smoking zone. He then approached the young man.
He shouted at the young man, " Did you see the sign over there? NO SMOKING HERE!." The young man was not happy and angry with Mr Peh for scolding him. He started to argue & fight with Mr Peh. The younster started throwing empty beer bottles at Mr Peh. Mr Peh used the stool to protect himself. Everybody took to their heels upon looking at them fight. One of the beer bottles hit Mr Peh's elbow while he was trying to defend himself. One of the customers called the police. Three minutes later, the policemen came.
The young chap tried to escape from the policemen but luck was not on his side. Three customers managed to held on tight to him and would not let him go. Soon, the policemen caught up with him and brought to the police station for questioning. All the customers wished the youngster will be jailed. Mr Peh was relieved that he suffered only a small cut on his elbow.

Uncle Pao was a cleaner at the hawker centre. One day, he was cleaning tables happily until he saw a man smoking at a corner of the hawker centre. Uncle Pao was furious, he walk towards the smoking man and put up his forefingers, pointing at the signboard which says "No Smoking"above the guy whom is smoking angrily.
The man who is smoking didn't feel good and spew vulgarities at Uncle Pao.Uncle Pao thinks that the man is in the wrong so he talk him back, saying that he is an inconsiderate person.the smoking man was so angry that he take an empty beer bottle and throw towards Uncle Pao.Unfortunately, Uncle Pao did not get away in time and the beer bottle hit him on his head. Many customers ran away as they were afraid to get involved in the situation.Poor Uncle Pao fainted on the floor, unconsious. Luckily, a passer-by saw the commotion and call the police and ambulance and reported the situation.Just as the smoking man wants to run away , the police came in time and brought him to jail while Uncle Pao was immediately sent to the Hospital for treatment.
After a few weeks, Uncle Pao was being discharged, the police praised Uncle Pao for being a good samaritan. In Uncle Pao's heart , he was glad that the smoking and inconsiderate guy had been brought to justice and that he had done a good deed.THE END.....:D

The Proffesional House Compo
Mr Peh had not eaten his lunch since 3p.m. A young vagabond strode into the hawker centre. The vagabond was heavily tattooed and wore a dirty singlet and a pair of shorts. His breath and his clothes reek of alcohol and cigarette smoke, as he staggered towards the table. He ordered three bottles of beer in Singlish. It was obvious he was an uncouth man. After that, he took out his cigarette, than he started smoking out heavy puffs of smoke. Meanwhile, Mr Peh who was sitting nearby, inhaled a great deal of smoke. He was steaming mad and boiling with rage, as he walked towards the young man.
Mr Peh tried to tell him not to smoke. However the vagabond smashed the bottles and tried to kill him. Hence the other customers were frightened to their wits and took to their heels. Mr Peh was also escaping away from the young man who was hot on his heels. When the young man finally caught up with breathless Mr Peh, he thrust a glass piece into his heart. A witness passed by and informed the police. Moments later, the police came and the vagabond was arrested. The paramedics tried to save Mr Peh but to no avail, they failed no matter how hard they tried.
The young man was sentenced to death but his death wish was to visit Mr Peh’s tomb. As the remorseful young man placed a bunch of flowers on the cold hard stone, he regretted his actions and wished he could turn back in time.

The young man was sentenced to death but his death wish was to visit Mr Peh’s tomb. As the remorseful young man placed a bunch of flowers on the cold hard stone, he regretted his actions and wished he could turn back in time.

Colour House's Composition
Hungryily,Sally walked to a nearby coffee shop to have her lunch.As she looked for a seat,she noticed a shabby-looking man smoking and drinking beer.Suddenly,the owner of the noodle stall,Mr Tay stomped to the young man.He pointed his forefinger to the 'no smoking' sign on the wall,telling the young man to stop smoking.The young man was offended and started a heated arguement with Mr Tay .
Soon,the shabby-looking young man started spewing vulgarities at Mr Tay.A lady was shocked by the words took to her heels.The young man took off his slippers and started throwing them at Mr Tay.My Tay picked up a stool and defended himself.The frightened patrons all scrambled out of the scene.
Mr Tay's assitant,My Tan called the police.The young man saw Mr Tan and took a dagger and threatened to kill My Tay."Help!Help!"Mr Tay shouted."Please don't be rash!Please!"Mr Tan shouted at the ruffian."Put down your knife or we will shoot you!" a voice shouted."The police have arrived!Yay!" a girl shouted as she and her mother walked past the coffeeshop.The police ran over and arrested the ruffian.
My Tay was appaled and by the ruffiannn's behaviour.My Tay could be more polite to avoid conflict."A soft answer turns away wrath,but a harsh word stirs up anger."

It was raining cats and dogs. We were listening to our teacher's voice that droned on and on."Ring....Ring...."the school bell rang. The children in their classes immediately ran out for it was dismissal time. James did not bring an umbrella ,he quickly ran to the hawker centre for shelter.
As he was drying himself off something caught his eye........ James saw a young man in his late thirties who looked shabby. His body language revealed that he was a ruffian . An old man, who was a cleaner, named Lychee went to the ruffian and pointed out to him that he was not allowed to smoke in the hawker centre. This made the ruffian angry. So he started spewing vulgarities at old man Lychee. Mr. Lychee tried to calm him down but no avail. This made the young man mad. In fury, he stood up and threatened to throw the beer bottles at Mr. Lychee. Mr. Lychee in defence picked up a nearby chair to defend himself.
The situation got out of hand soon enough. James quickly whipped out his mobile phone and dialled for the police as quickly as he could with shaking hands. Meanwhile the people close to the fight quickly scrambled away, in fear of getting hit by shards of broken glass. Bottle after bottle, the ruffian threw whatever he could take bowls, chopsticks, plates, cups, and cans. James could see that the old man could not last long against the young man as he had cuts, bruises and injuries.
At the eleventh moment, the police arrived just in time to see the old man fall to the ground with injuries all over, paramedics rushed over and treated to his wounds and sent him off to the hospital as soon as possible. The police thanked James and commended on his quick thinking and fast-action.

Well.. here goes..
A quarrel

It was in the middle of the night when owls were heard hooting,crickets were heard cricking.I woke up with my stomach grumbling,so I went down to the hawker centre with my parents.
The young man looked like a ruffian as he smoked and drank his usual treats:''root,dinosaur,ABC'' beers while smoking his favourite branded cigarettes 'Great Smoke,High Boost,etc...''and Mr Ng was passing by when he saw that ruffian man smoking and pointed up to the signboard with his forefinger but the drunken ruffian ignored his advice and started to spew vulgarities as the drunken man got agitated.Soon,they got into a quarrel.The drunken man started using one empty beer bottle and another empty bottle as a throwing weapon and started throwing them at Mr.Ng.
All the customers in the hawker centre scrambled out of the hawker centre.Mr.Ng tried to avoid the beer bottles,but one of the beer bottles hit Mr.Ng's head..Mr.Ng's head was bleeding profusely.The drunken man was appalled and quickly ran away.One of the stall vendors called the ambulance and the police.
At around fifteen minutes time,the ambulance and the police reached the scene.The paramedics took the stretcher from the ambulance and carried Mr.Ng onto the stretcher and zoomed off.
The drunken man was arrested and jailed for fifteen years and ten strokes of cane.Mr Ng had to go through operation and was hospitalized for three months.

My feelings about the class...read
Hi everyone! I am Calvin.
