TSUNAMI *WHAT CAUSES IT? * Tsunamis, also called seismic sea waves or, incorrectly, tidal waves, generally are caused by earthquakes, less commonly by submarine landslides, infrequently by submarine volcanic eruptions and very rarely by a large meteorite impact in the ocean or by other underwater explosions and testing with nuclear weapons at sea. Submarine volcanic eruptions have the potential to produce truly awesome,in this case terrifying and life-threatening waves. WHAT IS ITS "M.O."? in the open ocean, the tsunami has a amplitude of a few feet but the wave energy extend from the surface to the deepest waters. The tsunami is compressed into a much into a much shorter distance creating destructive, live-threatening waves. Will singapore be affected?earthquakes in our region are more prone to occur along the major fault-lines off the outer coasts of Sumatra,Java and the Philipines.Due to its geographic position,Singarpore is sheltered by the Indonesian Archipelago in the west and south and the Philipines in the east therefore it is very unlikely for Singapore to be directly be affected by a tsunami. comic jokers(research by cheang yi , zilin and reinvs) written by reinvs
