1) An earthquake is what happens when two blocks of the earth suddenly slie past one another.
2) The earth's outer layer or crust is broken into pieces called tectonic plates which are constantly moving towards, away from or past each other. Because continents are part of these plates, they also move. An earthquake occurs when the rocks break and move as a result of stresses caused by plate movements.
3) Singapore, March 6 ( Reuters)- Serveral buildings in Singapore financial district were evacuted on Tuesday after tremors from an earthquake in neighboururing Indonesia were felt in the city-state, making tall buildings sway. Singapore can also be affected by neighbouring Indonasia.
4) Most earthquakes-related to deaths are cause by the collapse of structures and the construction practices play a tremendows role in the death toll of an earthquke. In southern Italy in 1909 more then 100,000 people perished in an earthquke that struck region.
