How the water gets to the top:
Well usually, the water would be able t0 erode rocks that it passes over when it comes to a cliff,causing the riverbed to be lowered and creating a canyon upstream for the water to go back up to the waterfall.Also, sometimes softer rocks get weakened and will start to fall down due to its own weight and boulders and rocks will wind up at the base of the waterfall.
